The sample box, as some might know it, has changed dramatically over the past few years. From a broad point of view, sample boxes have been pushed aside by subscription boxes. Subscription boxes compile a variety of samples from companies. They then pass them on to consumers… And usually for a price.
But sample boxes aren’t completely gone. They’re just much more focused. For example, check out this sample box we created for a customer in the medical industry.
The medical and pharmaceutical industry has extra considerations that other types of sample boxes don’t. However, that doesn’t affect the base structure of the packaging, and they can still follow the same general best practices.
This particular sample box utilizes our mag box as a base layer. The mag box, or magnetic box, is one of our specialties at Sunrise Packaging. The front flap is the magnetic piece that holds the box securely shut, and also adds a little extra surface for the marketing content.
A sample box needs to speak for itself, and that’s best accomplished through the finishing details. The entire box is wrapped with a gloss lamination, and the digital printing allows for depth and subtleties in the color.
If you are trying to decide if it makes more sense for your organization to create a sample box or participate in a subscription box, there are a few factors to help make the decision. The industry matters, of course, and what regulations will allows. Also take stock of how customers should interact with the product, and what you want their first impression to be. In most cases–especially for medical or pharmaceutical products–a sample box is the way to go.
