Classic Cigar Boxes

Classic cigar boxes are one of the most popular styles of boxes that we produce. While other styles come and go with the trends, cigar boxes persist. And no, we're talking about actual, vintage cigar boxes!

(Although, to be fair, those do hold their value well).

Why Everyone Love Classic Cigar Boxes

Cigar boxes have that je ne sais quoi factor going for them. They're immediately recognizable as a product, and intuitive to use for the majority of folks. With a simple top flap opening, cigar boxes are highly accessible. Most people can open them without issue, and without any annoyance. I think we can all think of a time or two when we've had to massage the lid off a new cell phone box, right?

In addition to being easy to use, classic cigar boxes are easy to decorate. For us, at Sunrise Packaging, that can mean a lot of things. We're thinking about what kind of printing to use for the box. If there's a certain feel to apply to the finishing. And finally, the literal ornamentation. Embossing, debossing, the list goes on. Cigar boxes lend themselves well to a variety of finishes, which means that customers have a world of customization opportunities at their fingertips.

The Classics Never Go Out of Style

Rigid chipboard for durability. Flip top for easy access. And virtually unlimited options for finishing touches? There's a reason we love creating unique cigar boxes with our customers, and these are a few of the reasons. A universal crowd pleaser doesn't come along everyday. But it's something we experience a lot with this packaging style.

Branded Beauty Packaging Design

Branded beauty packaging is a fun industry with whom we enjoy working. Ok, to be honest, we really enjoy all industries with whom we work. But health and beauty packaging tends to stretch our creativity a little bit more. Brands know that they need to appeal to a niche customer base (Real Simple does a great job breaking that down). And this is a base that takes design and looks very seriously.

Branded Beauty Packaging: Creative Colure

When we talk about packaging design with the health and beauty industry, it's about creating something beautiful inside and out. The unboxing experience is just as important as the outside of the box.  This is something we could understand immediately with Creative Colure. In their own words,

Creative Colure is an all-in-one cosmetic box designed with convenience in mind for those who are short on time but are looking for a top notch face beat.

We worked with them to create a custom flocked foam insert to meet their needs.  And the outside of the packaging is digitally printed, ensuring a vivid first impression, with matte finishing for a soft, decadent feel.

Beautiful Packaging, Inside and Out

When a customer can honestly say that your products are beautiful from all angles, it's a great compliment. But it's just expected in the health and beauty packaging world.

Leverage our decades of experience in this field. We love to learn more about products and design needs, and exercise our mind muscles to create the perfect branded beauty packaging for your products. Contact Sunrise Packaging today!

Employee Gift Boxes & Employee Retention

How do employee gift boxes figure into employee retention, you might be asking ? Well, we're glad you asked.

Chances are you've had some experience related to what's being called "the great resignation." A sign at a restaurant asking for patience due to short staffing, or an influx of 'help wanted' messages online. Everyone seems to be looking for help, and it's no wonder. People have realized that life is too short for crappy jobs. They're finding more fulfilling, higher paid work that meets the criteria of what they want.

So where does that point toward employee gift boxes?

Well, let's take a look at retention strategies to try in 2022.

Employee Gift Boxes & Other Strategies

Employee retention is about ensuring that your employees feel valued. It would be ridiculous to think that you can maintain 0% turnover. But as long as employees are satisfied, chances are they won't look for new work too broadly. Here are some suggestions from Forbes:

  • Invest in employees and their growth.
  • Encourage management to lead with soft skills.
  • Pay employees fair and competitive wages.
  • Prioritize health, wellness and balance.

Creating a package that attracts and retains employees shouldn't be too formulaic, but these are elements that apply across industries. And we would encourage creating a literal package as well.

A Package Employees Can't Resist

When you decide to honor and recognize your employees, do it with a custom gift box from Sunrise Packaging. Utilizing your organization's branding and messaging enhances your standing and makes it even more memorable. Employees will be honored, and feel respected by the organization to whom their giving their time and energy.

Keep your employees engaged. Contact us today to figure out a customized solution for your employee gifting needs.

Creative Packaging in Higher Education

In higher education, first impressions matter. A lot. And that's why it's one area where creative packaging can pay off in a big way.

Honestly, it doesn't matter if it's students arriving on your campus for the first time, or parents searching your website. Maybe it's prospective marketing materials, or the new student checklist. The truth of the matter is that students have a lot of choices when it comes to their higher education. Transfer is easier than ever, and with so many schools battling for enrollment, you can never really be sure who's trying to recruit your students. That's why higher education should consider every communication to students a marketing communication. It's also where Sunrise Packaging can help you out.

Our FlashPad Wallet: Creative Packaging All Wrapped Up

At Sunrise Packaging, we're innovators in our field. The FlashPad Wallet is a popular choice for many institutions, but don't let it fool you. This little wallet is completely customizable. From the colors, content and beyond, it's the perfect choice for flashdrives, cards, or any other type of collateral you want to share with current or prospective students.

In the example to the side, this Northwestern University collaboration hosts videos for different programs. Finding ways to differentiate yourself in the higher education market is an important part of any marketing strategy. And in our experience, creative packaging that is eye-catching and useful wins every time.

Show Students They Matter

Most money goes toward recruiting students, which is a smart investment, of course. However, retaining students deserves some consideration as well. Keep your students engaged and invested in your institution. Crafting creating packaging that's geared toward them is a great tool.

Employee Gift Packaging Aids Retention

Just about everyone is well aware that expectations around career planning are changing. It's the Great Resignation, and even if you think changing meeting cadences will help your organization retain talent, think again. Companies who have long profited from low wages, poor benefits and generally exploitive practices might be too far gone to be able to make effective changes. But if your organization is simply looking for ways to keep employees engaged by telling them how much you value them? We've got a perfect addition to that strategy: employee gift packaging.

With the holidays around the corner, sharing gratitude is in the air. Redirecting that gratitude to your employees is a no-brainer. And with the proper employee gift packaging in place, your employees will be more focused on the thought behind the gift rather than the gift itself.

How Employee Gift Packaging Increases Retention

It might be tempting to simply add some dollars to your employees paychecks, but we would argue against that. As would others.  Extra dollars have a way of going toward things that are... Less than fun. A bonus, or an employee incentive, should embody fun or frivolity. It should be something that your employees appreciate but maybe not buy for themselves. That's why experiences, like trips, or luxury items, like watches, are perennial employee gift favorites. They hit the right chord of appreciation.

But even if your organization isn't in a place to gift everyone a Rolex, you can still do something smaller. A commemorative pin or coin, or a joking nod to an inside joke. These are things that are meaningful without being spendy. And of course, any gift is elevated with customized packaging.

Give Your Employees the Recognition They Deserve

The example above shows a set of employee recognition boxes we created. Employees were gifted a trip, and we worked with the organization to craft a design that meets their needs and, we think, conveys a sense of place and excitement. We can also create more standard gift boxes for your company, using your colors and branding, or something more unique.

Whatever your needs might be, Sunrise can help!

Custom Box Design: Dreams into Reality

What does your dream custom box design look like?

We know that might not be something you dream about, exactly. If we're honest, box design doesn't always fill our dreams, either. Depending on the industry and the product needs, box design isn't exactly a glamorous job. But it does have its exciting moments, and packaging concept design is one of them.

At Sunrise, we have a wealth of experience that balances out a blue-sky thinking approach. Customers can feel free to bring us their ideas for embellishments, content, wrapping and printing, handles, closure and more. We can help them scope the project appropriately based on whatever constraints exist. Whether your budget is limitless or limited, your product big or small, whatever spectrum you exist on: Sunrise Packaging can create the box of your dreams.

Custom Box Design Ideas

Designing dreamy packaging requires one foot in reality and the other in the clouds (is that a saying?). Custom box design usually follows a few simple tenets, and the rest is open to interpretation.

  • Closures
How your box should shut--and stay shut--is an important discussion. It involves an idea of how you want customers to interact with the box as a whole. And, of course, what your budget looks like.
  • Styles
Boxes come in all shapes of sizes, as you know, and just as many styles. Does your product need a setup box, or a gatefold box? Learn about the options here.
  • Finishings or embellishments
We've all been dazzled by a shine seal on a package, or impressed by a soft Nuba wrap. These different elements convey different things, and our experts can walk through how to get the best bang for your buck when it comes to these decorations.
  • Printing
Have some content, like instructions, social channels, or other pieces of information to share with customers? There are best practices when it comes to what this content should look like and how it should be formatted. Luckily, almost all printing options allow for variations.

Business Development Tools

When you hear the term "business development tools," your mind probably veers toward apps or technology. Like Slack, a spendy CRM, or things like that. And, truth be told, that is usually what people mean by business development tools.

But there's a hidden, second level to implementing these tools. It's not just enough to spend money on the CRM or a large Slack presence. Your team needs to know how to use them effectively and efficiently. There needs to be a larger presence that ties them all together. And it's those overarching themes and connections that can utilized and distilled into your organization's branding and packaging styles.

Packing Up Business Development Tools

Let's think about the main things that tools aiming to develop business do:

  • Target decision makers
  • Build relationships
  • Organize efforts
  • Add value

Packaging can aid all of these efforts. In the example to the side, you can see a recent project for an investment company. This is an example of high end marketing. Design and content aside, the purpose of the box is, quite literally, all of the key points that business development tools aim to do as well. They target decision makers and build relationships via a high quality tactile experience. They organize content and efforts, and help direct questions, inquiries and more to the proper channels supported by tech tools. And finally, this style of packaging adds immense values to interactions. The physical impact of your company in someone's office is immeasurable.

Designing the internal processes to support a business--and selecting the best tools to support it--is a big task. It requires a deep understanding of how your business operates, how employees interact, and how customers are best served. Packaging can help support those efforts in multiple ways, and Sunrise can help broker that support.

Presentation Kits Deserve Design Elements

Putting together presentation kits is a fun task. Well, we think so at least.

It's like creating a story that tells itself on its own. And that's particularly important in these COVID-19 days, where in-person meetings are happening less often. Creating a Zoom-ready presentation kit is a bit of a different order than it might have been in the past. But it's one that Sunrise Packaging (located in Blaine, Minnesota) is equipped to take on.

Designing Zoom Presentation Kits

Presenting in person takes a different skillset than presenting virtually. Whether your company uses Zoom, Webex, Google Hangouts or something else, it's important that the presenter is in full control of the virtual space. Which means that the presentation kit should assist them, and not hamper them.

This looks different and depends on your organization. If you are sharing samples with a customer, make sure that they're packed in the right order so the presenter can refer to them in a logical manner. If there is content inside the presentation kits that the customer or prospect should know about, the presenter can direct them to it and talk through key points. And let's not forget about importance of presentation kit aesthetics.

You wouldn't stuff an envelope full of samples, a brochure and your business card, drop it in the mail and expect a client to sort through it, would you? Of course not. A presentation should stand on its own, and the same goes for any accompanying kit. Ensuring that your kit has practical design elements integrated alongside flashy ones is an important balance to keep. For example, what type of closure does the kit need? Should it come with handles of some sort?

All of these questions and more are things that Sunrise Packaging can make sure is covered in the design of your presentation kits. Whether you are back to doing business in person or relying on virtual tools, we can help.

Custom Bag Tags for Team Sports

As a Minnesota-based company, we take hockey pretty seriously here. Other youth sports are important as well, but hockey is kind of our thing. And having the proper equipment--and having it labeled it correctly with custom team bag tags--is a key component.

Bag tags might seem like a random piece of team equipment to bring the forefront. But when you're in a locker room with 20 other kids, with identical bags and gear and jerseys, having some piece of personalization is important for order.

Team Spirit in Custom Bag Tags

Adding tags to team bags keeps equipment in order, but also adds in another factor to cultivating a team atmosphere. Team organizations can utilize bag tags for a variety of uses. It's not just for their equipment but an overall marketing strategy. Being able to utilize a logo and colors across a team, an organization, a tournament, or some other association gives a greater sense of connection. It's a badge of pride for many athletes and their parents. Not to mention, it's also the perfect swag for tournament gift bags.

In the example to the side, you can see the custom bag tags we've created up close. Some of them are focused on a tournament, others are teams. Both can be personalized with names and numbers. Sunrise can implement any content you want to utilize on your personalized tags, as well as any colors or fonts you provide.

On and Off the Ice

Custom bag tags are a great addition to any team regalia set or tournament swag bag. They can be used on equipment or even on luggage or any thing that could use labeling. We're a big fan of these types of projects (well, we love all our projects, TBH) but being able to support youth sports has a little extra special feel to it.  If you are looking for an inexpensive add-on for your youth sports team, custom bag tags are the way to go. Custom Medical Kits

Medical kits can have many uses and intentions. A dental emergency kit has, naturally, a different intent than an AED, right? But they can both be called medical kits.

At Sunrise Packaging (located in Blaine, Minnesota), we create USA-made boxes and packaging pieces that can meet any medical kitting needs. Our custom in house production style ensures every box is high quality. And creating custom foam inserts, or thermoformed packaging, is just another day for us. From dental to defibrillator, we can cover products across the spectrum.

Designing Medical Kits

A medical kit provides an opportunity for an interesting intersection of needs. Balancing the high standards necessary for satisfying industry regulations with aesthetics is something in which we excel. Check out the project to the side.

These digitally-printed magnetic closure boxes were a project for a local dentist's office. They hold custom dental work. With soft print lamination on the outside and balanced color scheme, they're pretty to both behold and literally hold. These boxes are proof that form doesn't have to cede functionality. And vice versa. Basically, we believe that useful things can be aesthetically pleasing as well.

Meeting You in Your Field

While this particular project is an example for a local dentist, it's hardly our first foray into medical kits. Sunrise has been in business for decades. And we really love the chance to show off our array of in-house specialities. This means that we can be a one-stop shop for medical packaging. We can craft thermoformed blister or other kinds of packaging to custom foam inserts to keep your product secure. Then design a box with a safety lid and hard edges that is still appealing to the eye.  Check out all of our medical packaging in recent history for more ideas.
