Real Estate Marketing for Millennials

Pew Research says that millennials are just about to surpass the Baby Boomers as the largest living adult generation.  Here's why--and how--it affects your real estate marketing strategies.

Millennials are defined as those born between 1981 and 1996. The upper end of the generation is reasonably established in their career, and nearly all need a home to lease or purchase. However, here's where millennials differ the most from previous generations: they're much more into the sharing economy, or using vs. purchasing. Look to the popularity of Uber and Lyft, for example, or the ability to Rent the Runway.   Additionally, the average credit score for this generation is fairly low--about 625--so they must qualify for more flexible, FHA-insured mortgage rates. However, despite all of this, 32% of homes are being purchased by millennials.

How Real Estate Marketing Reaches This Generation

Real Estate Express offers these helpful tidbits on how to reach this market most effectively:

  • Millennials prefer social media and texting for communication - but 75% would prefer that their real estate agent contact them by phone.
  • Over 90% of millennials rely on the Internet to find and communicate real estate opportunities.
  • While they know they can find the answers to practically anything online, 87% eventually seek out advice from real estate agents

This generation grew up with technology. Maybe not smart phones, but definitely in the era of the home desktop computer and a gaggle of gaming systems. When it comes to real estate marketing, target them on their favorite networks.

As a real estate agent, you're in charge of a lot when it comes to connecting with prospective buyers and sellers. One way to connect with millennials is to create shareable content. This can be videos, blog posts, infographics, etc that are posted on social media. These types of content of should be "bite-sized," meaning they're easily consumable in a short period. No one wants to watch a 10 minute tour of a house on a shaky iPhone. Create quick cuts of highlights. Or create a slideshow on Instagram. Play with mediums and styles to figure out what works for you and your audience.

Once you've hooked your millennial customer, remember that this generation relies heavily on the recommendations of their peer group. Take this opportunity to create a unique closing gift using Sunrise Package's custom packaging options. Like the FlashPad Wallet. Or any of our other innovative packaging solutions - just remember to slide your business card inside!

Premium Promo Packaging

As streaming becomes more and more mainstream, its affects on traditional music outlets is interesting. Some people have retreated back to using records and LPs; others are patiently waiting to see who wins out between Pandora, Spotify and Tidal. And through it all, radio continues to be a mainstay. After all, radio is the only that provides live interaction and chances to win. Increase your radio station's relevancy with premium promo packaging.

We've all been that person at one time or another: we hear an offer for free tickets or some prize package on the radio and we call in. Most of the time we get a busy signal. But I can remember one shining moment when the surreal happened: I got through. I played trivia on a morning show, and I won. It wasn't anything nearly as exciting as tickets or cash, but it was their album of the week with a t-shirt, water bottle and window clings. It was one of those magical experiences that awesome in nearly every way except for one: the prizes arrived in a plain brown cardboard package. More or less tossed in, with a short note from an intern. Doesn't quite give you the experience you want to talk about, does it? Doesn't really hype up the excitement of winning, does it?

When it comes to winning a radio promo package, whether it's tickets, a gift card or more, Sunrise Packaging in Blaine, Minnesota, can help turn it into an event for the recipient.

Why Promo Packaging Matters

In this world of social media influencers and viral videos, reaction is a marketing strategy in and of itself. Leveraging user generated content is not only low-cost but can yield high returns as well. When someone wins on the radio, it's most fun when they have a massive reaction. Screaming excitement, accidental expletives, it's all part of that live experience (and maybe sound bytes for future radio contest promos). Why dampen that excitement with lame packaging?

Whether your radio station giveaway includes tickets, gift cards, or some other special items, make that promo packaging work for you. Create something that's worth sharing. Our examples to the side show a couple types of packaging that get big reactions.

The top is our FlashPad Wallet, created for the University of Nebraska. The FlashPad and FlashPad Wallet are perfect for gift cards, concert tickets, and any small items that can ship easily in an envelope. These types of promo packaging allow for plenty of space for promotional copy as well as clear branding.

Got something a little bigger? Custom boxes are our forte. The example above - a promotional kit created for Campbell Soup - features a totally unique design. It's a play on the traditional front open box, with handles for easy transport and custom inserts to keep items in perfect order. The design outside the box is black matte with a laminate to catch the eye with every movement. It's a great example of promo packaging that makes sales, and can convert your listeners to influencers.

Influencer Marketing and Promo Packaging

When we talk about influencer marketing, many people miss promo packaging as a key part of the equation. Like we stated above, the excitement of winning something - anything - is worth celebrating, from the moment of winning to receiving the package. Maintain the momentum. Cannabis Kits

Part of the fun of the packaging business is getting to know a variety of industries. From key fob packaging to software FlashPads, there's always something new and exciting being created. It even extends into the realm of political action, as is the case with cannabis kits.

As of January 1, 2018, cannabis or marijuana is legal in California (with some regulations, of course). HauteSmokes is a startup specializing in smoking accessories for the sophisticated smoker.  We designed packaging that complements their take on the glamour and the *je ne sais quoi* of the industry.

Cannabis Kits That Exude Glamour & Sophistication

As with any product that requires packaging promotion, we started with the basics. How can we help them promote their business and give their customers a treat to open?

As stated above, HauteSmokes cannabis kits are all about creating a kind of old-Hollywood feel while staying relevant in the modern age that is marijuana legalization. As more and more states move toward legalization, their market is sure to grow. For California alone, experts estimate that legalization will have nearly a $5 billion impact. And Forbes estimates that the industry will create more jobs than manufacturing by 2020!

So when it comes to creating custom packaging that not only meets their current needs, but the potential growth as well, we knew it had to be something innovative, sophisticated, yet somewhat reminiscent of old time glamour.

Sunrise Packaging started with a magnetic box, or the MagBox, for that element of modernism. Magnet closures are satisfying and delightful for users. They're also perfect for protection for these delicate pieces - no accidental opening for these packages in transit!

For decoration, the magnetic boxes were wrapped with black ultima. This custom box wrap has a slight gloss, and is smooth to the touch. The gold foil stamping on the box seals the deal. Gold on black is a standard of Art Deco style, the roaring 20's, and old-time Hollywood. Custom box design can be full of references, and we love bringing these elements together for creative projects.

Get Ready for Growth

Whether you agree with it or not, the legalization of cannabis doesn't appear to be slowing anytime soon. And based on the projected market for it, there's plenty of opportunity as well. Get a head start on your cannabis kits with Sunrise Packaging. Contact us today!

Software Packaging Case Study

Software packaging can be an ambiguous term. It might refer to how files and resources are digitally packaged together, or a suite of applications, like Microsoft Office. As a packaging company, you can probably infer that we mean it in the most literal sense. However, we do take inspiration from the other meanings of "software packaging."

When it comes to creating packaging for software, Sunrise usually turns to the FlashPad. It's a hybrid style of packaging that brings together multiple elements. It can work as a display kit, a pamphlet, an advertising piece, and of course, a container for products. The small, compact size lends itself well to custom USB drives, key fobs, business cards, anything that can fit within the parameters.

Sunrise Packaging recently worked with Psychology Software Tools to create packaging for their E-Prime 3.0. Here's how they made the FlashPad their own.

Software Packaging for Your Business

In this example, Psychology Software Tools already had a designer on hand to create the design. Note that if you don't, we're happy to help!

We worked with their designer to get the right specifications and share best practices. Once the design was proofed and finalized, Sunrise got to work assembling the custom packaging solution.

After printing the wrap, we laminate it to give it a shiny finish. Other options include a matte finish, or a soft touch finish.

The pieces are then cut and wrapped around the FlashPad hard backing, providing support and security to the products. Then the liner, or the inside of the packaging, and the foam. Finally, the product is boxed up and shipped!

As you can see from the video, these FlashPads are fully customizable in almost every way. We've created these as marketing pieces for organizations ranging from colleges to real estate brokers. They're a versatile packaging style that we create with love in Blaine, Minnesota!

5 Things to Put on Your Podcast Flash Drive

podcast_flash_drive

“Podcast” is a polarizing term. If you know what it is, there’s probably a few you can’t live without–don’t commute without one, in my opinion–or you have no clue what I’m talking about. If you’re of the latter category, I envy you. You’re about to discover specialized, personalized internet radio shows for the first time. But if you’re already an avid podcast downloader, then perhaps you’ve thought about starting your own.

Perhaps you already have.

Not even a decade ago, if you started a podcast, you could probably rank #1 in searches. But now as the internet has given birth to you YouTube stars, podcasts have become the cat’s pajamas. Everybody and their brother has one. I have one. And once you have one, the addiction becomes sort of like tattoos–you just have to have another.

My podcast was more for pleasure than for business. Local fame and a few loyal listeners was plenty for my ego. But if you’re looking to make a name for yourself in the medium, you already know you’ll have some competition. Even if you’re hosting the most niche podcast–Crust-First Pizza Reviews on Horseback, for example–the ease of creating your own show means you’ll still probably be buried. If you want to give your podcast some notoriety, I suggest going analog.

Creating a podcast flash drive for your show is just good business. A USB drive acts as a gift, stores nearly-unlimited data, and lives up to its name when it comes to flash. Once you have them made, simply hit up the convention of your choice (preferably one relevant to your topic) and let the SWAG flow!

Before you hit the trade show floor however, consider this a checklist for what to include on your podcast flash drive. Here are 5 that cannot be missed.

Your Podcast (duh)

Too sassy? Look, even the smartest people leave the house with only one shoe. Sometimes the obvious stuff is the easiest to forget. When loading up your drive with digital goodies, this one is a biggie. But don’t just pick any episode, choose the best episode. Or the episode that is most intriguing. Maybe you have a two-parter with a great cliffhanger. Or make a shortened sample of an episode to give your potential listeners just a taste. Then they’ll want to find your show on their own. Which reminds me…

Link It Up!

While giving your listeners a sample, don’t forget to set them on the path to finding your show online. That’s the beauty of a flash drive—digital content. Easily create a shortcut to your show’s website, or any social media that you update. Be bold–send them right to the subscription sign-up! Or maybe you have a Kickstarter or Patreon that needs some traffic.

Behind-The-Scenes Footage

Right now, some of you amateur ‘casters are thinking “Hey, I have a face for radio, that’s why I started a podcast in the first place!” Tough! Images, especially video, can set your podcast apart. People loving putting a name to a voice too. Include a compressed video of some behind the scenes action on your podcast flash drive. At the very least, it’ll make the viewer feel like they’re on the ground floor of something big!

Logo or No Go

When I said “on” I didn’t just mean digital contents. Let’s not forget the exterior of the flash drive. One of the most thrilling parts of starting your own podcast is creating a compelling logo. If you haven’t done that, well…that’s Step 1. But Step 1.5 should be to show off that logo on your custom USB.

A Bottle Opener?

8GB_flash_drive_bottle_opener_thinkgeekThis one might be a little more specific to me. As the cohost of a beer review podcast, I think this bottle opener flash drive would be the perfect promotional gift to my listeners. What would yours be? Choosing a flash drive that represents what your show is about is not only charming and clever, but it makes an already practical gift even cooler. And with so many different-shaped flash drives out there, finding one that’s the right fit for you is even easier than hitting the record button.

As a bonus, package your podcast flash drive in one of our signature FlashPads™. The smooth hardcover presentation will leave your competition in the dust. Make the perfect modern mixtape to find your listeners. Show off even more visuals, cleanly store your preloaded USB drive, even use an NFC tag for more interactivity.

Above all, when getting your podcast off the ground, it’s important to think outside the box. And outside the internet. Don’t wait for people to search for your show, give your show to them!

College Bound FlashPad Put New Spin on Old Tradition

Ah, college. You remember it well, don’t you? Your favorite seat in the auditorium class. The patch of grass out in front of your dorm where you’d gather on a sunny afternoon. But how about your first college memory? You know, that fateful day where you went to the mailbox and saw that acceptance letter–or what you hoped was the acceptance letter.

Maybe you remember it fondly, or maybe you just remember the scene from any coming-of-age college movie. Either way the acceptance letter plays a big role in the college experience. And thanks to Sunrise Packaging’s College Bound FlashPad, the moment of truth just got that much more exciting.

Some universities have already switched to the College Bound FlashPad for their correspondence. Why? Because it’s a big thing in a small package.

College Bound FlashPads for university recruitment, acceptance letters with hard turned edge binding and offset printing

First Impressions

Start with the packaging itself. The College Bound FlashPad is a prestigious presentation. It opens up like a book and presents you with a gift. Imagine the words “You’re In” or “Welcome to Your Future” embossed on a turned-edge hardback binding. The shiny university emblem foil stamped into the cover. Something to run your hands over, instead of just a cold piece of paper with a standard office font. The university is telling the student he or she matters, and the student has the first taste of pride in their future alma mater. A preview of holding their degree.

Get Loaded

Secondly, it’s functional. Maybe your acceptance letter was followed by a packet of information. Maybe it was buried in a bunch of Welcome! pamphlets jumbled around by the mail carrier. But the FlashPad is crisp, clean, and capable of storing all that information in one little flash drive. Imagine you’re in the Admissions department of a college. Instead of getting an influx of forms and papers chicken-scratched by incoming freshmen, you get a digital form back via email. That’s the beauty of the flash drive, isn’t it? All your paperwork–not some of it–packed into one easy to use device. All parties involved can benefit from that. Sunrise Packaging will even load up your data for you!

Standout Recruitment

On the flip side, universities can also use the College Bound FlashPad recruit potential students. Imagine a college fair where all the university reps are still handing out lanyards to impress. Give a student something they can use, something memorable. As a college recruiter, you can load your flash drive with newsletters, class rosters, statistics. You can even load the FlashPad with other goodies–a pen, a flashlight–to add even more value. If a student can expect the kind of luxury a FlashPad offers before they’ve even enrolled, you can imagine how they’ll perceive the experience and education that’s awaiting them at your university.
So go on. Give somebody that amazing acceptance letter they’ve been waiting for with a College Bound FlashPad. The one from the movies. The one that opens itself and truly shines.
