Case Study: Custom Turned Edge USB Packaging

Metlife Custom USB Case

MetLife Home Loans was looking for a professional packaging solution for a recruiting flash demo that offers an inside look at the unique set of marketing tools that they provide to their Mortgage Consultants. Packaging the USB flash drive with this custom USB case was a great way to help distinguish their recruiting program. The case itself features turned edge technology that gives the look and feel of a hardcover book. The USB drive fits nice and snug inside and a clean piece of custom white foam.

MetLife Home Loans was equally pleased with their new custom USB case as they were with their experience working with Sunrise Packaging. Their appreciation of our responsiveness was a delight to hear as we pride ourselves on quality both in our products and our service.

SDXC the future in flash drives

SDXC from the SD Card Association offers a whole new world of flash drive capabilities.  This memory card’s capabilities are nothing short off amazing.  It’s rumored to be able to store 100 HD movies, 60 hours of HD recording or 17,000 fine-grade photos.  These types of capabilities will no doubt come with a price tag.  To become an early adapter of this technology you can expect to pay upwards of $450.

These memory cards are commonly used in cameras, smartphones, camcorders, navigation systems, gaming consoles and laptops.  However, the view for the future is more expansive as mentioned in an excerpt from this article.

Last year Toshiba talked about putting SDXC slots in TVs, which would allow users to play movies directly from SD media. The company envisioned users going to movie-vending machines from where they can buy movies on SD cards.

Oh the future, where everything is just a flashdrive away.

SuperSpeed USB 3.0

For the past year, we have been hearing about the new SuperSpeed USB (USB 3.0). It will have many advances for both consumers and adopters of the new technology, such as much higher speeds and enhanced power efficiency.

superspeed usb 3.0 cordThe speculations were finally released in November by the USB 3.0 Promoter Group, which includes companies such as Hewlett-Packard, Intel, Microsoft, NEC, ST-NXP Wireless, and Texas Instruments. They transitioned the management of the specification to the USB Implementers Forum (USB-IF).

With technology today, people are expecting and using much higher quality images and sound. These larger files take an extensive amount of time to transfer. But with USB 3.0, you do not have to worry about that. Data transfer rates are up to ten times higher than with USB 2.0. It has new power features, such as energy-saving sleep modes, which is great when looking for green technology.

Consumer products could appear as early as 2010. The first Superspeed devices are predicted to be flash memory devices, external hard drives, mp3 players, and digital cameras. As we wait for these new devices, don’t forget about your flash memory packaging options!

Flash Memory Cards: Which Are Right For You?

Flash memory cards are used for a wide variety of electronic devices, including digital cameras, camcorders, PDA’s, organizers, cell phones, mp3 players, and digital picture frames. There is also a wide selection of flash memory card formats, so how do you know which card will work best for you?

Flash memory cards range in different sizes for different devices, as well as in memory capacity that can be stored. Here are some of the types available:secure digital sandisk SD memory card 1.0GB

  • Secure Digital (SD) Memory Cards. These cards come in three different physical sizes: SD, miniSD, and microSD. The SD cards are typically used in most digital cameras, video cameras, mp3 players, and digital picture frames. The miniSD and microSD are used in smaller devices, such as cell phones. They can be used with an adapter to fit in an SD slot. These are available in three different storage capacities:compactflash CF ultra flash memory card 8.0GB sandiskStandard SD (up to 2GB), High-Capacity SDHC (4GB or higher), or the new eXtended Capacity (32GB-2TB).
  • CompactFlash (CF) Memory Cards. These cards are used with high-end digital cameras and digital SLR cameras. They are available in capacities up to memory stick card pro duo 8.0GB
  • Memory Sticks. These cards can only be used with Sony digital cameras and other compatible olympus xD picture card 1.0GBSony electronic devices. They are available in capacities up to 16GB.
  • xD Picture Cards. These cards are used in newer Olympus and Fuji digital cameras, Olympus digital voice recorders, and Fuji mp3 players. They are available in capacities up to 2GB.

You need to make sure that the card that you choose is compatible with your electronic device. Another major thing to take into consideration is how much storage space you need. The number of megapixels the camera has, the resolution of pictures being taken, and the amount of pictures you want to be able to take will determine the memory storage capacity that you will need. If you are recording videos, you will definitely need a memory card with a higher capacity to be able to store longer, high-quality videos.

Whichever flash memory card you use, Sunrise can create for you custom packaging or stock flash memory cases that will store and protect your cards. Not only will high-quality packaging help display and increase the perceived value of your flash memory devices, but it could also prevent loss or damage.

Who Uses USB / Flash Memory Devices?

Flash memory devices are so handy that anyone who is able to use a computer or electronic device could find a use for them. These devices are used with computers, mobile phones, digital cameras and camcorders, digital picture frames, mp3 players, etc.

USB jump drives are very helpful to work on papers and projects that are still in progress, especially if the student does not have a computer of his or her own. It is a good way to save old projects for future reference without having to take up precious computer memory.

Authors and writers also use jump drives for their work. This way, they can take their work along with them anywhere that they can find inspiration to write. Some also back-up all of their writings on a jump drive and store it in a security box at the bank to prevent loss/damage.kingston minisd 1GB flash memory card

It is also especially important for small businesses to use flash memory USB jump drives as an emergency back-up for their data and vital information. It would be a disaster to lose that information, so it would be a good idea to back it up on a jump drive once a day or even just once a week.

Memory cards are very handy for photographers to use. Most cameras take the SD format memory cards, which can store many pictures.flash memory cards for digital picture frames They can also store pictures on any flash memory device to save memory on the computer.

Flash memory devices are especially helpful to all of these kinds of people, but they can be useful for most anyone. Some forms of personal use are taking and storing digital pictures or videos, displaying pictures in a digital picture frame, storing files on a cell phone, using mp3 players, backing-up personal files / music, or transferring files to another computer.

You can even go green by using flash memory, because these devices are rewritable and reusable, rather than burning your data to a CD. And since these devices are holding your valuable information, you want to make sure that you protect them in durable cases.

What are USB Flash Drives?

You have probably seen or heard of USB flash drives, but what exactly are they and how do they work?

USB flash drives, also commonly called USB jump drives, are NAND-type flash memory storage devices that are integrated with a USB interface.

Common Terms:usb universal serial bus flash drive

  • USB (Universal Serial Bus): A portal that allows communication between a computer and an external device over an inexpensive cable
  • Flash memory: is computer memory that can be erased and rewritten or reprogrammed
  • NAND flash memory chip: stores data. NAND flash is typically also used in digital cameras.

Flash drives are very handy to use, because their small, compact size makes them easily portable. The average size is 2.75″ x .75″ x .25″ and typically weighs 2 ounces or less. Despite their small size, these storage devices are able to hold 64MB – 64GB of information, depending on the specific capacity of the device. This makes them perfect to carry your important files and information on-the-go, or to back up your files without taking up a lot of space.

Not only can you carry a large amount of data on these small jump drives, but they are also composed of flash memory. This means that they are rewritable and reusable, which is perfect for carrying around unfinished projects.

The small size and rewritable flash memory makes jump drives a great product, but there are risks. Since they are so small, it makes it very easy to lose the device and all of your important information on it. The rewritable flash memory also makes it possible to accidentally delete your data.

USB flash drives need sturdy packaging in order to help prevent damage or loss. USB drive cases could also help you keep your flash drives organized and in one place.
