A redesign of Liksys Router packaging graphics by Cisco was met with positive feedback. The graphics on the box for the device had a punch of color that caught the eye, all while clearly communicating product capabilities. The improvement was a step up from the past packaging category that was historically utilitarian and quite confusing. The implementation happened quickly- in less than six months to meet the holiday sales season. The design was mean to cut through a lot of information to make the product more accessible to the consumer. Cisco’s goal in the redesign was to translate the possibilities one could achieve with the product. The design uses bright splashes of neon color along with images of compatible devices. This change was met with enthusiasm from the industry. This just goes to show that even a design change for existing packaging construction can make a difference for on-the-shelf marketing.
