USB Flash Drive Market On The Rise

Wednesday, July 6th, 2011

Some have speculated that USB flash drives would be a short-lived phenomenon, although market research has projected the USB flash drive market to reach 568 million units by 2015, suggesting steady growth.

This makes sense because of the many benefits associated with flash drives. Whether it’s personal or business, USB drives offer a wide variety of benefits such as ease of use, durability, portability, and increased data storage space among others.

Most businesses are now switching their media to USB flash drives, especially for promotional use, away from dated storage media such as compact discs, floppy drives, and SD cards. Some speculated that there would be no need for USB drives as we go deeper in the digital age but end users still find a lot of value in having a tangible product in their hands.

As a packaging manufacturer for nearly 30 years, we’ve experienced quite an increase in interest for USB flash drive packaging especially in the last year. This suggests that the growth is occurring and the demand for USB drives will persist. Companies who use USB drives for promotional use are differentiating by customizing their flash drives and through packaging.

UBU Sports specializes in synthetic sports turf that enhances athletic performance and player safety. To educate clients on the significant differences in their various synthetic turf systems, UBU Sports wanted packaging for their promotional materials that would differentiate them and emphasize the uniqueness of their sports surfaces.

Account Manager Steve Sandahl worked with UBU Sports to create a custom turned edge USB case that would be a great representation of their company and products. Style and durability are the two main characteristics. The turned edge technology gives it the feel of a hardcover book that opens up to the inside where a piece of high density foam holds the USB flash drive securely in place. Combined with alluring graphics, this USB case is an innovative promotional package for a cutting-edge company.

SuperSpeed USB 3.0

Monday, March 16th, 2009

For the past year, we have been hearing about the new SuperSpeed USB (USB 3.0). It will have many advances for both consumers and adopters of the new technology, such as much higher speeds and enhanced power efficiency.

usb 3 0 300x248 SuperSpeed USB 3.0The speculations were finally released in November by the USB 3.0 Promoter Group, which includes companies such as Hewlett-Packard, Intel, Microsoft, NEC, ST-NXP Wireless, and Texas Instruments. They transitioned the management of the specification to the USB Implementers Forum (USB-IF).

With technology today, people are expecting and using much higher quality images and sound. These larger files take an extensive amount of time to transfer. But with USB 3.0, you do not have to worry about that. Data transfer rates are up to ten times higher than with USB 2.0. It has new power features, such as energy-saving sleep modes, which is great when looking for green technology.

Consumer products could appear as early as 2010. The first Superspeed devices are predicted to be flash memory devices, external hard drives, mp3 players, and digital cameras. As we wait for these new devices, don’t forget about your flash memory packaging options!

Flash Memory Cards: Which Are Right For You?

Wednesday, March 11th, 2009

Flash memory cards are used for a wide variety of electronic devices, including digital cameras, camcorders, PDA’s, organizers, cell phones, mp3 players, and digital picture frames. There is also a wide selection of flash memory card formats, so how do you know which card will work best for you?

Flash memory cards range in different sizes for different devices, as well as in memory capacity that can be stored. Here are some of the types available:flash memory card sd Flash Memory Cards: Which Are Right For You?

  • Secure Digital (SD) Memory Cards. These cards come in three different physical sizes: SD, miniSD, and microSD. The SD cards are typically used in most digital cameras, video cameras, mp3 players, and digital picture frames. The miniSD and microSD are used in smaller devices, such as cell phones. They can be used with an adapter to fit in an SD slot. These are available in three different storage capacities:flash memory card cf Flash Memory Cards: Which Are Right For You?Standard SD (up to 2GB), High-Capacity SDHC (4GB or higher), or the new eXtended Capacity (32GB-2TB).
  • CompactFlash (CF) Memory Cards. These cards are used with high-end digital cameras and digital SLR cameras. They are available in capacities up to 48GB.flash memory card memory stick Flash Memory Cards: Which Are Right For You?
  • Memory Sticks. These cards can only be used with Sony digital cameras and other compatible flash memory card xd Flash Memory Cards: Which Are Right For You?Sony electronic devices. They are available in capacities up to 16GB.
  • xD Picture Cards. These cards are used in newer Olympus and Fuji digital cameras, Olympus digital voice recorders, and Fuji mp3 players. They are available in capacities up to 2GB.

You need to make sure that the card that you choose is compatible with your electronic device. Another major thing to take into consideration is how much storage space you need. The number of megapixels the camera has, the resolution of pictures being taken, and the amount of pictures you want to be able to take will determine the memory storage capacity that you will need. If you are recording videos, you will definitely need a memory card with a higher capacity to be able to store longer, high-quality videos.

Whichever flash memory card you use, Sunrise can create for you custom packaging or stock flash memory cases that will store and protect your cards. Not only will high-quality packaging help display and increase the perceived value of your flash memory devices, but it could also prevent loss or damage.
