One of the most valuable assets a business can acquire is a true understanding of the importance of branding. Branding is not only a promise to the consumers, it tells them what to expect and it differentiates one business from the next.

As the market grows for each individual product, consumers are presented with more choices when trying to obtain a product. The product that can trigger the consumer to have an emotional response will be the one that they will choose to purchase.

Nike is a great example of branding, people know Nike, and they know their logo, catch phrase, and products. Nike has created a cohesive message that appeals to the consumer. Nike understands what branding can do for their company and if other business can understand this secret as well their revenue and client base will go up.

The first step to branding your business is knowing the potential it has to change your company for the better.

Brand can:

  • Help the customers remember you product, name, business
  • Show the customers what your business does, it explains who you are
  • Build loyalty and encourage repeat purchases
  • Convey emotions with in your customers
  • Add value to your product through an increase in customer trust

Once a business understands what branding can do for them they must understand how to incorporate branding into their company, so that it will work for them and attract customers. Remember branding is not marketing; it is creating an image for your brand.

  • Spend money to create a great logo
  • Integrate your brand into every aspect of your business, for instance letterheads, employee dress, etc.
  • Develop a memorable tagline
  • Create brand standards and design templates to keep the entire brand cohesive
  • Know your target audience and to some extent base your brand on what they want you to be and what they need you to be
  • Write down your brand message, make sure everyone in the company knows what your goals are, and stay true to your brand

The AMA (American marketing Association) defines branding as “name, term, sign, symbol or design or a combination of them intended to identify the goals and services of one seller or group of sellers and to differentiate them from those of other sellers.”

So go ahead, differentiate your company from the rest, and design a branding campaign that will take your business to the next level.
