Packaging can take many forms and can be made out of many different materials. One popular choice is the use of poly. Poly is a flexible material, making it durable against everyday use. Poly packaging is very versatile. Its light weight allows for easy shipping and its many options for design makes poly packaging a must for promotional endeavors. Poly enables packaging to have a crisp and clean look, giving it an excellent presentation factor.

There are two types of poly packaging: polyethylene and polypropylene. Polyethylene is the most popular plastic in the world. It is classified as a thermoplastic, which means it can be melted to a liquid and remolded when it turns solid. Polyethylene is interesting in that it was accidentally discovered. A German chemist in 1898 was applying heat to another compound, when he realized the extreme heat and pressure produced polyethylene. Polypropylene has a little different structure in that it serves as both a plastic and a fiber. It has a higher melting point than many other plastics, making it a common material in dishwasher safe food containers.

Poly packaging is an outstanding choice for customization. Offset and screen printing are popular options for poly projects. Specialty printing like foil stamping, embossing, and debossing are other options to add creativity, uniqueness, and character to any packaging project. Poly packaging can take many forms including boxes, binders, totes, envelopes, and folders. The versatility and durability that poly packaging offers gives companies that ability to stand out from the competition.

The ring binder was first patented in 1854 and since then they have been used for many things. The binder is the most efficient way to organize all kinds of materials. Since binders come in different sizes, colors, materials, and capacities, they are a universal tool for any type of organizational need. Binders also allow the user to become creative in what a binder is used for. Possibilities are endless when it comes to the many uses of binders.

Here are 8 uses for ring binders:

1. Sales pricing books
2. Owner’s manuals or employee handbooks can be easily organized into a binder
3. Organize school materials, homework, etc.
4. Organizing collections: Whether you collect stamps, baseball cards, or other memorabilia, plastic sheets and inserts are a great place to put collections and can be easily placed into a binder
5. Binders can make great scrapbooks or photo albums
6. Easel binders allow for making presentations easy
7. If you have a bunch of recipes lying around, a binder can be used to make a cookbook
8. A binder was originally created to hold loose leaf paper, which is a great place to write a journal, a book, or track goals

These are just a few examples of how binders can be used, but there are many more uses out there. Binders make organization easy and convenient, especially with binder accessories such as tabs and page protectors.

Binders have always been an integral component to any office, home, or educational facility. They allow for papers and other materials to be organized and kept in one place. Binders create a tidy look and presentation, also allowing possessions to be protected. Binders have been around for many years. What was once an organizational tool in the 1850′s is still an organizational tool today. Let’s take a look at the past, present, and future of binders.

Past:
In 1854, patents were filed for both the 2-ring and 3-ring binders by a man from Rhode Island named Henry T. Sisson. He realized a specific problem people were experiencing. The problem was that people had loose leaf paper but no idea how to organize or store it. So Henry began designing to come up with a solution for this problem. That is where the ring binder started. The first binder had 2 rings and then evolved to 3-rings. The first 3-ring binders were covered with heavy cardboard like binding and the metal parts were made of cold rolled steel. It was not until 1899 that binders were actually for sale. Chicago Binder and File Company was one of the first companies to do so.

Present:
Today, binders can be found everywhere. They come in many different shapes, sizes, materials, and designs to fit any need. Ring metals can be shaped in a round ring, D-ring, and angle D-ring. Binder sizes can range from as little at 1/2″ to over 3″ capacity. There are also a lot of materials that binders can be made out of. Poly, vinyl, and recycled materials are the most popular choices. Binders can also come in many different colors and patterns, and can also be customized with foil stamping and screen printing to meet specific needs and tastes.

Future:
Binders will continue to be a useful component for organization and storage. We will also see an increase in eco-friendly binders which are binders made out of recycled materials and soy based inks. This new type of binder allows for a more sustainable option for organizational needs. The trend towards customization will also be prevalent with binders as well.

What started almost 160 years ago as a way to store loose leaf paper has grown into an organizational phenomenon and continues to be a popular choice for storing papers and other materials.

The binder has really been put to use as a photo album as well. It’s kept together collections of old faded photos. Wedding albums display the big day and baby books show off the new arrival.

For those who like to go above and beyond photo albums there are scrapbooks. Scrapbooking albums come in all shapes and sizes. Scrapbooking continues to gain momentum and has now become the most popular craft segment.

Finally, it may be used to store all of the secret family recipes, and perhaps some of the not so secret recipes as well. Whatever it’s use make sure to pick out a binder that fits your function.

The way you organize often depends on how you think. To some it makes sense to place things alphabetically. To others it makes sense to organize according to time, project, client, or subject matter. Luckily any system that works for you will work for the binder. Within your system of organization you can further organize by using tabs or separating sheets. You can also attach cd holders to store masses of information. You may be thinking, “I know a binder’s organizational uses.” Fair enough, but do you know all of the ways it can make you eco-friendly?

We’ll start with recycling. Many of the dividers and CD holders are being made of recycled material. Additionally, they’re being made of material that can be recycled. The binders themselves are also being made of recyclable material, whether it be from recycled plastics or papers. For example, take our eco-binders. They are made from 75% post-consumer recycled material and are functional as well as dirt and grime resistant. Additionally, you can reuse binders from one project to the next making them an efficient way to stay organized.

It’s known that serving diners food on a blue plate will encourage them to eat less, while serving food on and orange or yellow plate will encourage them to eat more. Colors like dark navy, hunter green, burgundy or black can evoke tradition, respect, or even somberness, and deeper purples can evoke royalty, status or class. Pastel colors can often be associated with children, while reds can evoke desire, passion, authority, happiness, or conversely fear.

Color can be used well or poorly. One opinion of color used poorly is below.

Of course, poor color choice is selective, but why was this design chosen specifically?

Green is a good color to promote a feeling of nature, or a feeling of money (especially in the US). It is also a good color to be used to catch someone’s attention. On the other hand, once their attention is caught, what part do we pay attention to? Do we really see the apps over the overwhelming green of the background?

it is one writer’s opinion that if the above color was on packaging for a product, the packaging would not work. While it does have a ‘wow’ factor, the green of the packaging, like the green in this picture, would seem to shout louder than the product.

However, it would be interesting to notice that if the same picture was in a different color, such as a similar color like teal, how the message of the product or applications might have stood out over the packaging.

Using Apple as an example, here is another example of color choices.

Both packages pictured above use colors to emphasize and brighten without overpowering. The ‘natural’ and the ‘white’ state traditional while caring about the environment, while the colors used in the center add balance, freshness, and ‘likability.’ Although they don’t scream “Look at me” like the above example, they do say, “I’m trustworthy.”
