The gaming world is buzzing about the Xbox Kinect- a hands-free motion control system that allows gamers to rid of their remote controls altogether. Picture taking the Nintendo Wii one step further. Watch a demonstration video here.
So how does it work? Kinect consists of two cameras that capture the movements of the player. Much like human eyes, the twin cameras allow for depth perception, so Kinect can pick up on a wide range of motion without the aid of a video-game controller. This lets gamers shake their bodies and watch their character do the same.

The packaging for the new Xbox Kinect games has recently been unveiled. The games will come in traditional games cases much like a DVD case. However, the Kinect game cases will be purple. Each box art displays the new “wave” design and a “Requires Kinect Device” label.
Look for the Xbox Kinect to arrive on store shelves for the 2010 holiday season. There is much debate on whether this is going to be a success or a short-lived novelty. What do you think?

Are you using Twitter for your business? Does it feel like a tweet has a very small window of opportunity before it goes floating into Twitter space? It’s tempting for many to post the same tweet twice but how much is too much? Social users are getting bombarded with information and content constantly. That’s the argument for and against posting the same tweet twice.
Many opinions out there say that the best time to send a tweet range from 12pm-4pm Eastern time. Social Media Marketing experts have been experimenting with timing and frequency of tweets. One expert sent a tweet at 7pm and then again at 7am the next morning. He concluded that if your goal is to send people to a blog post, sending the same tweet twice is recommended. This comes from the assumption that a person following you is more likely to want to see the content that you are sharing, therefore two is better than one. Plus, people generally have patterns at which time of the day they’re using social media so chances are, you’re getting wider visibility by posting a tweet twice.
Statistics from this particular study went like this. 399 people clicked on the link offered by the 7pm tweet. For the second tweet at 7am the next morning, 244 clicked on the link. Further, if sending a third tweet later in the day, the link would get, on average, 50% of the clicks as the morning tweet. This concludes that there are still people at that time who haven’t seen the tweet but would like to.
So three tweets might be a bit much but two is definitely recommended. As long as you’re varying the times of day and shaking it up a bit. Also, you could tweet the same link twice but change the text of each tweet. For example, choose a couple of different quotes from the story or post that you’re sharing and use those to draw people into the link. There is a downside to this strategy. You run the risk of potentially driving people to your blog post that they may have seen already which could be annoying to some.

How about this for creative packaging? A wine label completely unglued to the bottle itself attached by a rubber band. Why? Because it’s a poster!
2010 is the name of the wine and it has a very positive outlook on the year. The poster reads “Got a feeling it’s gonna be a good year”. After the wine is finished, hang the poster on your wall or refrigerator and return the wine bottle. Now don’t quote me but according to the 2010 Minnesota Recycling Refund Act, each returned bottle accounts for 10 cents. You do the math….it’s gonna be a good year!

If Argentina wins the World Cup, Pepsi is going to make a change to its packaging. In fact, their cola bottle will be “Going nude” so to speak.
Argentina’s coach Diego Maradona said he would celebrate an Argentinean World Cup victory by running around naked in Buenos Aires. Pepsi then stepped up and announced that the company’s soft drink bottles would be sold for a week in Argentina with no label, baring all of its fizzy cola from top to bottom. To illustrate just what that would look like, Pepsi is running a print ad campaign this week in Argentina.
Though not a favorite, Argentina is not a long shot to win the World Cup soccer tournament either. Brazil and Spain are the favorites but Argentina star Lionel Messi gives the squad hope.

It’s Father’s Day this weekend and everyone has their shopping done right? If not, here are some cool gift ideas for different types of dads:
The Traveling Dad
Corsair Padlock 2- This is a really unique USB drive with an excellent security feature. The thumb drive is perfect for transporting sensitive business and personal information. Without the correct PIN number, the computer that the flash drive is connected to won’t recognize it and the data can’t be accessed. The PIN number is user chosen and can be four to ten digits long.

D’Aosta Vintage Luggage- For the traveling dads with style. This is a super cool vintage line of luggage that is very distinctive. There are several styles and each one come in “Carry on” size and full size. Eco luggage tags would be a nice compliment. I’m just sayin’….
The Lounging Dad
Oppo BDP-83 Blu-ray player- Rated as the top Blu-ray player on CNET, this is an outstanding universal disc player with excellent Blu-ray and DVD performance plus lightning-fast operational speed. It is a bit pricy though.

New Blu-ray and DVD Releases- Looking at a few Blu-rays that are new to store shelves in recent weeks.
*Book of Eli- Action & Adventure starring Denzel Washington
*Shutter Island- Thriller starring Leonardo DiCaprio (Saw this in the theatre- really great movie!)
The Eco Dad

A new study by Leadforce1 shows that social media right now might not be the best way to garner leads for B2B companies. In fact, very seldom are visitors from top social sites looking at product or contact pages. This suggests that they’re not in the market for the company’s products or services rather, they’re most likely to be interested in a company’s blog or ‘About us’ page.
This ranked list reveals the site pages of interest for visitors coming from Facebook to visit B2B websites (#1 being the most visited page):
1. About Us
2. Blog
3. Management Team
4. Contact Us
5. Careers
6. Products
Another list shows the rankings of site pages of interest for Twitter users visiting B2B websites:
1. Blog
2. About Us
3. Products
4. Contact Us
5. Management Team
These lists may not seem too promising for sales however, the visitors seem to have an interest in learning about the company which is a common behavior and usually the first step in B2B relationship building.
In addition, most B2B site visitors from Facebook and Twitter are not sticking around for very long. This data reflects the percentage of visitors referred from social media sites to B2B sites who only visited a single page before leaving:
1. Facebook- 63%
2. Twitter- 63%
3. LinkedIn- 39%
4. Wikipedia- 39%
LinkedIn and Wikipedia referrals generally were more likely to browse around on a company’s website before moving on. Further, LinkedIn visitors were most interested in “Careers” pages suggesting that the network refers many job seekers.

There are some things I just don’t understand. Take the new USB Typewriter for example. After spending around $500 for the hottest tech device in the world- the iPad, you can add a touch of ancient customization for $400-500. But why?

The USB Typewriter is just like it sounds. A portable typewriter that plugs into your USB drive to give your word processing the look and feel of obsolescence- not to mention your fancy new devices. Note: the typewriter can be used with any PC or Mac as well. Made by a fellow named Jack Zylkin, you can buy the USB Typewriter pre-made, in a kit, or send him your own typewriter and he’ll customize it.
I sort of understand the charm but isn’t the point of having an iPad or a laptop for convenience? This does not seem very pleasant to have to haul around. Plus, how many words can you type a minute on a typewriter? Isn’t that partly why they’re obsolete? I understand novelties in life, but the price of this doodad threw me for a loop. Somebody tell me what I’m missing.

Ok, so the world’s gearing up for the World Cup kickoff today. Awesome! All eyes focusing on the host country South Africa who prepared a set of state-of-the-art “green” stadiums to hold the games. Five of the ten total venues showcase sustainability designs and features. Take a look at a few:

Moses Mabhid Stadium- Located in the sea side city of Durban. The architects took great care to lower the structure’s energy profile by using natural cooling techniques, great protected daylighting , and rainwater catchment. This 70,000 seat facility was designed with the future in mind for ongoing sporting events, concerts and as a seed for a future Olympics bid.

Green Point Stadium- The skin is a translucent silvery-white membrane that takes on the color of its surroundings while producing a soft glow at night. A truss and cable system supports a semitransparent roof that lets light in but limits solar heat. The stadium has capacity for 68,000 fans, and its design was specifically developed to reduce the venue’s overall profile.

Soccer City Complex- Located in Johannesburg. Home to the World Cup 2010 finals, this world-class facility is actually an extraordinary remodel. The renovated venue is based on the iconic African pot known as the calabash. The stadium achieves a transformative effect on the landscape through its form, color, and light. At day its earthen patterned color evokes the copper-rich land which has supported the local economy for generations. A night transparent panels in the façade create a unique and memorizing pattern. The façade’s transparent roof streams daylight into the concourse. Capacity 90,000.
The tournament opener will feature a match between South Africa and Mexico. Let the games begin!

If employed, branding can play a key role in packaging. Incorporating brands into custom packaging creates an extension of the product itself adding distinct character and personality. Here’s a great example of branded packaging using a very subtle approach to add elegance but also let the product stand out.
Theurel & Thomas is the first pâtisserie in Mexico specialized in French macarons, the most popular dessert of the French pastries. For this project it was very important for their packaging to create an imposing brand that would emphasize the unique value, elegance and detail of this delicate dessert.
White was the primary tool for design. As a result of this the attention was fully oriented to the colorful macarons. Two lines were placed into the design; cyan and magenta. This was to show relation with the modern French flag. Didot typeface, a French typography, was selected to present the brand with sophistication.
