Monday, February 23rd, 2009

Flash memory devices are so handy that anyone who is able to use a computer or electronic device could find a use for them. NAND flash memory devices include USB flash drives / jump drives and SD format memory cards. SD memory cards also include SDHC, MiniSD, and SDmicro cards. These devices are used with computers, mobile phones, digital cameras and camcorders, digital picture frames, mp3 players, etc.

USB jump drives are very helpful to work on papers and projects that are still in progress, especially if the student does not have a computer of his or her own. It is a good way to save old projects for future reference without having to take up precious computer memory.

Authors and writers also use jump drives for their work. This way, they can take their work along with them anywhere that they can find inspiration to write. Some also back-up all of their writings on a jump drive and store it in a security box at the bank to prevent loss/damage.who uses minisd Who Uses USB / Flash Memory Devices?

It is also especially important for small businesses to use flash memory USB jump drives as an emergency back-up for their data and vital information. It would be a disaster to lose that information, so it would be a good idea to back it up on a jump drive once a day or even just once a week.

Choosing a CD/DVD Case

Friday, February 20th, 2009

You know that you need cases to package and store your CDs or DVDs, but do you know which case is the best fit for your needs? We came up with a few questions to help you analyze your situation, in order to determine which case is the best fit for you:

Are you looking for a standard size case to match the rest on the shelf or are you attempting to save space?

If you want your case to be the same size as a standard DVD case, there are a few options available for you:

  • Premium Quality. • Standard Quality. If you are looking for a case offered at a lower cost, the standard quality case is for you. This black case is available in either one or two disc capacities and features literature clips and a clear overlay to display artwork.

What are USB Flash Drives?

Wednesday, February 18th, 2009

You have probably seen or heard of USB flash drives, but what exactly are they and how do they work?

USB flash drives, also commonly called USB jump drives, are NAND-type flash memory storage devices that are integrated with a USB interface.

Common Terms:usb drive flash memory What are USB Flash Drives?

  • USB (Universal Serial Bus): A portal that allows communication between a computer and an external device over an inexpensive cable
  • Flash memory: is computer memory that can be erased and rewritten or reprogrammed
  • NAND flash memory chip: stores data. NAND flash is typically also used in digital cameras.

Flash drives are very handy to use, because their small, compact size makes them easily portable. The average size is 2.75″ x .75″ x .25″ and typically weighs 2 ounces or less. Despite their small size, these storage devices are able to hold 64MB – 64GB of information, depending on the specific capacity of the device. This makes them perfect to carry your important files and information on-the-go, or to back up your files without taking up a lot of space.

Not only can you carry a large amount of data on these small jump drives, but they are also composed of flash memory. This means that they are rewritable and reusable, which is perfect for carrying around unfinished projects.

The small size and rewritable flash memory makes jump drives a great product, but there are risks. Since they are so small, it makes it very easy to lose the device and all of your important information on it. The rewritable flash memory also makes it possible to accidentally delete your data.

USB flash drives need sturdy packaging in order to help prevent damage or loss. USB drive cases could also help you keep your flash drives organized and in one place.

Custom Packaging in Action

Friday, February 13th, 2009

Set your product apart from others. Gain recognition for your creativity in packaging. This is what custom packaging is all about. Recently, I stumbled upon some truly unique packaging that Turner Duckworth – based out of San Francisco and London – created for Motorola.

Turner Duckworth was challenged to create a totally unique, eye-catching and product-tailored packaging design for their phones.

Here is what they came up with:

This design was created to compliment the MOTOROKR, a phone that doubles as an MP3 player. The stereo design shows off the functionality of the product in a custom way.

For the MOTORIZR, a package was created that illustrates the sliding motion of the phone. The box design includes “tatoos” with varnished surface textures.

The packaging for the MOTORZR was created to exude a glamorous image. The highly reflective, jewel-like finish shows-off the reflective gleam of the actual phone.

This example illustrates the impact of custom packaging. Not only does is it more attractive and eye-catching than standard packaging options, but it fully reflect the product it contains.

Benefits of Social Responsibility

Wednesday, February 11th, 2009

Social responsibility is becoming more and more popular, and there is no surprise why. It allows the company to feel good about themselves and donate to the charity of their choice. Not only that, but it is also a great marketing tool. Customers, stockholders, and employees embrace companies that give back to the community.

  • Choose a charity that both your company and customers care about.
  • Organize a marketing plan to get the word out. There is no need to be shy! Together, your company and your customers are helping others out. If it is widely known, More people may want to help support your company and the cause.
  • Keep a record of the success of your campaign. This will help you figure out what strategies do and don’t work for the future.
  • Follow up on the campaign. This will let your customers know they made a difference and remind them about your company.

It is so important that the public knows about your campaign and what it is for. One of the best ways to make your customers aware that you are involved with a cause is to display it through your packaging.pink social responsibility campbells Benefits of Social Responsibility

Some of the more popular campaigns have a certain color associated with their cause.

  • Pink. There are numerous pink products supporting the Susan G. Kolmen for the Cure Foundation.
  • Red. The (Product) Red campaign is partnered with many brands, such as Apple, GAP, Starbucks, Windows, American Express, Converse, Dell, Hallmark, and Emporio Armani to support the Aids Foundation. red social responsibility Benefits of Social ResponsibilityAnother common color your packaging can convey a message that will keep your customers coming back.
  • Green. Being environmentally-friendly is another huge part of social responsibility. Customers love the new “green” trend and it is important to display it through the packaging.

CPSIA & Libraries

Tuesday, February 3rd, 2009

A recent CNN report highlights that even libraries could be affected by the new CPSIA (Consumer Product Safety Improvement Act of 2008) legislation.

Libraries are a great resource for children’s books, however, the new CPSIA could end all that. Because libraries lend books to children under the age of 12, it is possible that they are subject to the new CPSIA legislation.

Many older titles coming from publishers that now could be out of business, the burden of testing the books for lead would rest on the shoulders of individual libraries that are already struggling with smaller and smaller budgets. The cost of testing could force libraries to remove untested titles from circulation or perhaps even ban children 12 and younger from libraries.

The American Publishers Association and the American Library Association have urged the Consumer Product Safety Commission to modify the legislation or exempt libraries from the legislation.

Publishers of books and audiobooks are doing everything they can to ensure compliance with the legislation for new books. And manufacturers of DVD cases, 3-ring binders, and other replacement packaging used by libraries, like Sunrise, have confirmed their products are CPSIA certified.

On Monday, February 2, 2009, the CPSC published a statement saying they have issued a one-year “Stay of Enforcement” for the Act. This gives the CPSC time to clarify the confusion surrounding the Act. As a result, libraries have more breathing room to understand the Act as it applies to them and to generate protocols for compliance

Regardless of the stay, libraries can rest assured that replacement packaging purchased previously (and in the future) from Sunrise will help them comply with the new legislation without additional strain to already stretched budgets.
